A Brief History of Vision Brookings

In 2005, Brookings Economic Development Corporation, the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau, and Downtown Brookings, Inc. came together as one new organization that they called the Vision Brookings Coalition. The purpose of the collaboration was to use the resources of all three entities to provide financial resources in Brookings. The Vision Brookings campaign was developed as an economic growth accelerator for Brookings, South Dakota. 

During the first campaign, over $2.7 million in cash investments from private businesses went toward both economic growth and workforce needs in Brookings. This very first Vision Brookings campaign was named Vision Brookings I. 

The success of the Vision Brookings I campaign led to the development of Vision Brookings II, which was launched in 2012 and completed in 2016. The campaign raised $2.1M in cash investments.

Vision Brookings III was later launched with a different objective. The mission of the campaign was to build on prior investments with an emphasis on attracting workforce, new business opportunities, and strengthening bonds between entrepreneurs.

Vision Brookings 2027 is a Game Changer

Now, Brookings is working on Vision Brookings 2027 (in pursuit of game changing opportunities) with several new initiatives! Vision Brookings 2027 will have a primary focus on increasing access to childcare in Brookings, completing the I-29 Exit 130 interchange, further developing Research Park at SDSU, and providing additional and workforce housing in Brookings. 

The goal for Vision Brookings 2027 is to raise $3.2 million. Overall, our hope is that Vision Brookings 2027 will lead to a significantly improved quality of life for Brookings residents.
