Vision Brookings 2027 – “In Pursuit of Game Changing Opportunities”

Brookings, S.D. November 14, 2022 – Campaign co-chairs Jay Bender, of Falcon Plastics, and Kevin Tetzlaff of First Bank & Trust, are announcing the $3.2 million five-year campaign to invest in game changing opportunities for the Brookings area. More than $2 million dollars has been raised to date.

“We invite private businesses and individuals to invest in strategies for growth of the Brookings area economy,” said Bender. Tetzlaff added, “Thanks to previous Vision Brookings Campaigns, our community has a vibrant and growing economy, investments in Vision Brookings 2027 will secure continued economic growth over the next decade.”
Vision Brookings started in 2005 to catalyze initiatives that contribute to Brookings’ area long-term economic growth and development. Success has been achieved by aligning private sector leadership and resources around a shared agenda. Through the previous three five-year campaigns, the organization raised $7.45 million. These contributions leveraged an additional $50 million from other sources for local economic development projects. Vision Brookings 2027 will continue to build on prior investments and successes while focusing on the region’s challenges and opportunities.

Tim Reed, Brookings Area Chief Economic Development Officer commented “Vision Brookings has been an important component of the economic prosperity in Brookings. Private sector leadership was key to securing the $18.6 million grant to build the new I-29 interchange at 20th Street. The interchange will have game changing impact with new commercial and housing opportunities.”

Kelsey Doom, President of the Brookings Area Chamber added, “Our community has a long history of supporting economic development, please join me and invest in the $3.2 million campaign and be a part of game changing initiatives to continue economic prosperity in the Brookings area.”
The initiative is designed to capture new and expanding business opportunities that will result in regional economic growth. Some key components include:

  • Increase in affordable & workforce housing
  • Increase in Quality Childcare
  • Develop and expand the Research Park at South Dakota State University
  • Fulfill private sector match for new I-29 Interchange
