State Future Funds to Support Education at South Dakota State Penitentiary

Governor Larry Rhoden and the South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) have awarded approximately $1,518,000 in FY 26 Future Fund dollars to support skilled trades education and job training at the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
With oversight from the South Dakota Board of Technical Education, the funds will help Southeast Technical College offer on-site instruction at the penitentiary. The program will provide incarcerated individuals the opportunity to earn a diesel heavy equipment certificate, gaining valuable skills to prepare for life after release.
