Play Here: Find Your Adventure in Brookings
As home to the SDSU Jackrabbits we know a thing or two about playing hard. In Brookings, you can watch NCAA games and cheer on the home team as they take on division rivals in football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and more.
If you love spending time outdoors, you’ll love Brookings. We have 640 acres of green space - ten times the average green space per resident which means abundant parks and biking trails. Dakota Nature Park, a 135-acre destination park has ponds for kayaking and fishing, along with trails and opportunities for bird watching. McCrory Gardens is another popular outdoor destination with 25 acres of formal gardens and 45 acres of arboretum. And, if golf is your sport, you’ll enjoy playing 18-holes at the Brookings Country Club, “South Dakota’s finest course”, Edgebrook Golf Course, Meadow Creek Golf Course, Six Mile Creek Golf Course
Those who prefer indoor entertainment can spend weekends exploring our 15 cultural amenities that includes the Children’s Museum of South Dakota and the South Dakota Art Museum where over 7,000 pieces of art are on display. The Agricultural Heritage Museum and Brookings Art Council are other popular destinations, as are the Swiftel Center and the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center where concerts and events are held regularly. In the summer, people come from throughout the region to attend Downtown at Sundown (a free summer concert series), Brookings Summer Art Festival, and Brookings Farmers Market (open May through October).
