Retaining and Expanding Brookings Business: A BEDC Program

Brookings Economic Development Corporation is launching their Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) program in 2024 to help promote business success and a healthy business climate in the community and county. As a part of this program, BEDC will collaborate with local businesses to gather information and trends to help drive business development initiatives, resources, and growth. The organization will learn about these trends and needs of the business community through data collection, business visits, and industry cluster or business community events. 

One of the primary initiatives of the BR&E program is the annual business survey. BEDC will share the survey link through various marketing efforts including email and social media. If you are a business owner or know a business owner in the area, BEDC would appreciate your participation in the Business Survey. 

Insights garnered from the survey will be summarized and shared at the Economic Development Summit on May 1. The Economic Development Summit will be open to the public and event information will be shared in early spring. 

In addition to the business survey, the BR&E program will directly connect with business owners and industries through business visits. These in-person conversations, with key company leaders, will allow the BEDC team to further develop business support strategies, to share resources specific to the business/industry, and to understand climate wide trends for larger initiatives and projects. Visits will be planned at the request of a business if they demonstrate interest when completing the survey or can request a visit through an online form on the BR&E website. 

BEDC’s BR&E program will allow the organization to collaborate with Brookings Economic Ecosystem partners to remove barriers, provide access to business resources, and understand the business climate to allow for growth and prosperity. We look forward to starting off the new year strong and continuing to build up Brookings.
