English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

There are several options to take English language learning classes in Brookings:

Lake Area Technical Institute Adult Education & Literacy

1310 S. Main Ave, Suite 112, Brookings, SD
Classes held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Levels: All levels, but classes focus on intermediate level.
Cost: Free

Students are asked to bring a Visa/passport, green card, or proof of citizenship. If this is not available, any government issued picture ID will be excepted. Students will be required to complete intake paperwork and take an oral and/or written English assessment. All materials are provided, but students can bring notebooks and pens if desired. Must be at least age 18 to participate. Daycare is not provided.

University Lutheran Center

Classes held on Tuesdays from 9:30 – 11:30 am; Thursdays from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Levels: Conversational English, all levels

South Dakota State University

Intensive ESL Program
Classes held each semester for 16 weeks
Levels: Advanced
Cost: $5,747

Students must meet the minimum English proficiency requirements for admission to the ESL program. The program consists of one level. Students can expect to complete ESL in one to two semesters based on proficiency. Full-time enrollment: 21 hours of study a week. This program is designed for students seeking admission to a nationally accredited U.S. higher education institution.
